The six day Capacity Development Programme on Sustainable Livelihoods through Agriculture and Eco friendly Farming Practices for Krishi Sakhis of Madikeri Taluk was successfully organized at ICAR KVK, Gonikoppal, under the joint collaboration of NRLM Sanjeevini, Karnataka State Rural Livelihood Promotion Society and Zilla Panchayat Kodagu. The programme aimed to empower rural women by enhancing their knowledge, practical skills and confidence in sustainable agricultural practices. Key focus areas included integrated soil and nutrient management, crop diversification, eco-friendly pest and disease management, water conservation, nutrition security and income-generating activities.

The training was carefully designed to build Krishi Sakhis as community resource persons, capable of guiding farmers in their villages, promoting eco-friendly and climate-resilient farming practices, establishing small-scale enterprises and improving household livelihoods. Through hands-on demonstrations, field exercises, group activities and exposure visits, participants acquired practical knowledge in crop management, biofertilizer use, Nutri Garden planning, drudgery-reducing farm tools, and seed conservation techniques. The programme also emphasized women empowerment through skill development, peer learning and building self-confidence, enabling participants to adopt new agricultural techniques effectively and inspire others in their communities. By the end of the week-long training, the Krishi Sakhis were well-equipped to serve as leaders and change-makers, promoting sustainable, profitable and environmentally responsible agriculture across Madikeri Taluk.
